Comedy Central is honoring Jon Stewart by streaming over 2,000 episodes of The Daily Show live online. The streaming marathon will take place on the Month of Zen page of Comedy Central’s website. The marathon started at noon yesterday and the streaming will not stop until August 6th at 7:17 pm EST. Just before Jon Stewart’s final Daily Show episode. The stream is free for those in the United States. If you are currently outside the US or plan to travel during the streaming marathon then a Smart DNS service will help you gain access to the live stream. I recommend Unblock Us which offers a 7 day free trial. That’s plenty of time to enjoy some of The Daily Show marathon.
Over the next five and a half weeks you will likely see lots of #jonvoyage as Comedy Central is promoting the hash tag as a way to say goodbye and wish Jon Stewart the best. In addition to the Comedy Central stream, Sirius XM Radio will be carrying a portion of the Month of Zen marathon. Sirius XM channel 95 (Comedy Central Radio) will carry the stream from August 1st at 7 am EST until August 3rd at 7 am EST. Comedy Central has also announced a special “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: News Your Own Adventure” will air on Sunday, August 2nd at 9 pm EST.
Comedy Central launched The Daily Show with Craig Kilborn in 1996. Craig hosted the show until December 1998 and then Jon Stewart hopped into the hosting seat in January, 1999. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is broadcast on Comedy Central in the United States and Comedy Network in Canada. The show airs ever night Monday through Thursday. After over 16 years at the helm, Jon Stewart will be stepping down on Thursday, August 6th. The Daily Show correspondent and South African comedian Trevor Noah will be taking over the hosting role.
There were a number of comedians rumored to be considered for the open hosting role on Comedy Central’s wildly popular The Daily Show. It would have been very hard for any of them to fill Jon Stewart’s shows for sure. Some of the names considered include Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Chris Rock, and Amy Schumer. It would have been interesting to see where Amy Schumer would have taken the show. Her style of humor is quite a bit different than Jon Stewart. At the end of the day Trevor Noah was chosen for the role and will start hosting the The Daily Show on Monday, September 28th.
We will all miss Jon’s humor. As host of the Daily Show he kept millions of fans tuned into Comedy Central for the laughs. It will be interesting to see how Trevor Noah does in his upcoming role as host of The Daily Show. Given his success as a correspondent and comedian I think he’ll be just fine. Not that Trevor will step into Jon’s shoes and fill them but The Daily Show fans will give him a chance to shine. Don’t forget to watch the Month of Zen event as Comedy Central honors Jon Stewart by streaming over a month of The Daily Show from June 26th through August 6th.
