As internet connections get faster and faster, more organizations jump on the streaming bandwagon. The company that puts out The Great Courses is no exception to this rule. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, this extended learning company is offering a streaming service, Great Courses Plus, for 5000 of it’s most popular courses online in the fall of 2015. The courses range from science to cooking to music and are taught by well known professors in their personal fields.
Compared to some of the other streaming services, the price point seems a bit high. in US dollars, it is $49.95 a month of $360 a year. You must take in to account however, the cost of education in general. If you compare paying the monthly or yearly fee to taking a non credit class at a community college, you quickly see this is a great deal. Instead of buying one course that can range from $16-$500, you get access to 1000s of lessons all for one low monthly or yearly price. With 5000 courses available in the beginning, there is bound to be topic that interests you. You could actually binge learn instead of just binge watch.
As far as platforms and speeds go, they plan to have Great Courses Plus available for all devices, like Roku, Apple TV, Kindle Fire, Android and iOS systems. Though initially offered on Google and Android devices, as they add more content to the service, they also plan on adding more apps. That said, they do recommend a connection speed of 20 mbps with 40 mbps being the optimal speed for their service.
If you currently live or plan to travel outside of the United States, you would be able to enjoy Great Courses Plus with a SmartDNS. In addition, you may also enjoy channels like HBO Now, Showtime, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Sling TV, CBS All Access, and live sporting events from anywhere in the world by using a Smart DNS service. You do not have to be blocked simply because of your location.
